“ON THE SPIRITUAL IN CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE”
The speaker series will engage the work of four contemporary architects in the field of sacred/religious architecture. The series plans to feature the work of Joan Soranno (Lakewood Mausoleum, Minneapolis, Minnesota on February 2, 2021); Siamak Hariri (Baha’i Temple, Santiago, Chile on November 6, 2021); Brigitte Shim (Congregation Bet Ha’am, S. Portland, Maine on February 5, 2022); and Nader Ardalan (Shams-i-Tabriz Mausoleum, Khoy, Iran on April 9, 2022). The envisioned structure of the four events is that each of the invited architects would begin by offering a short presentation on their work, which would then be followed by a panel discussion with several other leading scholars and architects. Co-sponsored with the Kenan Institute for Ethics at Duke University, the Architecture, Culture, and Spirituality Forum and the Center on Modernity in Transition. An online poster for each session will announce the distinguished panel and the registration link.
